This year, the APTA KY Annual Conference, Optimizing Movement While Balancing Life, will be held in Somerset, KY, September 13, 2025 at the Somerset Community College. Research Forum Posters, along with other sessions will be presented by therapists in research, special interest, case study, or theory reports. Present at the 2025 Kentucky Physical Therapy Conference – Abstracts Now Open!
Are you a leader, innovator, or rising voice in physical therapy? We invite you to submit an abstract to present at the 2025 Kentucky Physical Therapy Conference, where clinicians, educators, researchers, and students come together to learn, connect, and advance the profession.
This year’s event will feature two hands-on lab rooms and two classroom-style breakout rooms during each concurrent block, giving you the opportunity to share both practical skills and clinical knowledge with your peers.
Abstract Submission Deadline: Friday, July 11, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET
All abstracts must be evidence-based, clearly written, and include a full description of methods, results, and conclusions. Hands-on labs must outline learning objectives and techniques to be demonstrated.

Austin is a graduate of the University of the Cumberlands Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. He is a physical therapist at Drayer Physical Therapy in Richmond KY.
1975 graduate of University of Kentucky School of Physical Therapy. Worked in multiple practice settings. KPTA President 1984-89, APTA Nominating Comm. APTA BoD, 1990-96. APTA Representative to the RUC-HCPAC; APTA Representative to 1996 Paralympic Games; KPTA Outstanding Service Award 1986; McDougall Award 2001, Don Lang Award 2012; APTA Lucy Blair Award 2000; Robert Dicus Award 2009; Institute of Private Practice Physical Therapy 2010-16; Somerset Community College Hall of Honor 2013; 12th Region Hall of Fame 2012; Fifth District Lincoln Club Hall of Fame 2016. Stephanie Elliot, PT, DPT, OCS
Stephanie earned her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Kentucky in 2010. She has been a therapist at KORT for 15 years and is the clinic director at KORT Tyler Center. She has completed an APTA-accredited residency program to specialize in orthopedics and now teaches in KORT’s clinical excellence program. She is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist and trained in vestibular therapy and trigger point dry needling. Her personal interests include travel, camping, and spending time with her family including her 2 young children.
Dr. Ennis has been in PT education for 27 years, with the last 10 in educational leadership, both at Bellarmine University and at the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences. Dr Ennis is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric PT, with a clinical practice that has included NICU, early intervention, seating and mobility, aquatics, and telehealth. She is Chief delegate for the Academy of Aquatics to the APTA House of Delegates, past-President of the KY Chapter of APTA, past Vice President of theTechnology Special Interest Group of the Academy of Leadership and Innovation, and serves as a member of the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee for APTA. Having stepped away from full time PT education recently, Dr Ennis is a consultant, focusing on program design and development, faculty development, and program evaluation. She also continues her 15 years of work preparing PT and PTA students for the NPTE.
Mackenzie Ferree, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic and Pediatric Physical Therapy
Mackenzie Ferree, PT, DPT graduated from the University of Dayton in 2016 and from Indiana University's DPT Program in 2019. Following graduation, she completed a neurologic PT residency at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, TX. Mackenzie is employed at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Louisville, KY, treating both pediatric and adult patient populations presenting with primarily neurologic diagnoses in the inpatient rehab setting. She is an associated faculty member for Hanover College, primarily assisting with courses in the neurologic and pediatric curriculum. Dr. Ferree is a member of the Indiana and Kentucky Chapters of the APTA and the Academies of Neurologic PT, Pediatric PT, and Education. She currently serves as the Stroke Special Interest Group Chair Elect, Indiana APTA Nominating Committee member, and is on the physical therapy residency accreditation onsite review team through ABPTRFE. Dr. Ferree is board-certified in both neurologic and pediatric physical therapy.
Matt is a 2017 graduate of the University of Kentucky's Physical Therapy program and has been working at KORT-Nicholasville since graduation. Matt completed an Orthopedic Residency program with Select Medical in 2019 and a Fellowship through Northwestern University in 2022. Clinically, Matt is interested in conditions related to the spine, chronic pain conditions, Sports related injuries and neuropathic conditions.
Eric earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky in 2023 and has worked at KORT - Fountain Court since graduation. He is currently earning his Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Therapy through KORT and is certified in Dry Needling. He has a passion for hands on manual therapy and the relationship of physiologic motion to mechanical and inflammatory pain in the treatment of orthopedic and sports related pathologies.
Vicki Landers, PT, DPT, MHA, ACC
Vicki Landers, PT, DPT MHA ACC is a physical therapist, leadership coach, educator, and speaker with over 30 years of experience in healthcare. Her career has spanned direct patient care, rehab leadership, home health strategy, and system-level project management. She now focuses on coaching healthcare professionals who are navigating leadership roles, burnout, or career transitions. Vicki is an ICF-certified coach and Energy Leadership™ Index Master Practitioner, blending her clinical background with a practical, reflective coaching style. She has taught a the graduate and undergraduate levels and speaks nationally on topics like perspective shifts, resilience, and how we show up as leaders. Vicki serves on the NKC Health Board of Trustees and is passionate about helping clinicians lead with intention—without losing the heart of why they started in healthcare.
Dr. Callie E. Latham graduated with her doctorate in physical therapy in 2016, completed her orthopedic residency in 2018, and became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in 2019. She then pursued further training in pelvic health physical therapy focusing on pre- and post-partum care. Presently, she is a full-time professor at Bellarmine University instructing in anatomy, orthopedic, and pelvic health tracts, and a clinician serving pelvic health and orthopedic patients. Her professional passions include advancing health equity by addressing social determinants of health in pelvic health physical therapy, actively engaging in community outreach, and contributing to the development of future leaders in the field through curriculum innovation and mentorship. She is an engaged member of the APTA’s Academy of Pelvic Health and is involved in research focused on optimizing DPT education to foster socially responsive and community-driven practitioners.
Matt Lee, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Matt is a clinician, administrator and educator at Kentucky Orthopedic Rehab Team, a private practice in Kentucky and has been a PT for over 25 years and is Board Certified by the APTA in Orthopedics and is a Fellow of the AAOMPT. He has clinical interests in post graduate education, manual therapy, clinical reasoning and post graduate faculty development, as well as specific interests in the development of teaching skills to promote clinical reasoning and clinical expertise for residency and fellowship faculty. He actively teaches continuing education to clinicians across the US, serves as adjunct university faculty, holds faculty positions for post graduate residency and fellowship programs and has presented at national PT conferences
Tracey LeGrand, PT, MSPT, Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Women's Health Physical Therapy
Tracey LeGrand graduated with her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Kentucky in 1999 and later completed a Master of Arts in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2010. Tracey developed a passion for treating pelvic floor disorders and pelvic pain conditions early on in her career in the year 2000 and worked in various facilities in Central and Western Kentucky, building successful pelvic health programs. Tracey began marketing and providing pelvic health services in Lexington, Kentucky in the year 2006 and spent many years building relationships with local health care providers and educating them about the important role physical therapy can play in helping women and men find the treatment needed to restore quality of life and function from pelvic health conditions that many find difficult to discuss. In the year 2012, circumstances led Tracey to launch her business, Cornerstone Pelvic Health and Wellness, PLLC. In July 2017, Tracey LeGrand was awarded the professional designation of board-certified clinical specialist in women's health physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Tracey is 1 of only 7 physical therapists who have obtained the distinction of board-certified clinical specialist in women's health in the state of Kentucky. In addition to clinical practice, Tracey is also an adjunct Professor at University of the Cumberlands teaching Pelvic Health to DPT students. She is a yearly guest Lecturer at Somerset Community College teaching the physical therapy assistant students about Women’s Health/Pelvic Health Issues and has been featured as lecturer/speaker at various conferences including KPTA conferences, Kentucky Pain society, Asbury Theological Seminary, and Bluegrass Orthopedics Symposium.
Dr. B.J. Lehecka is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Wichita State University. At WSU, he primarily teaches content concerning the hip, spine, posture, gait, and other facets of musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment. Dr. Lehecka has published many peer-reviewed journal articles, authored and edited numerous book chapters, co-authored a textbook, and presents often at state, national, and international conferences. He earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Kansas State University, a doctorate in physical therapy from Wichita State University, and a PhD in orthopedic and sports science from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
Elizabeth Levay, PT, DPT, PhD, Board-Certified Women's Health Clinical Specialist
Dr. Levay earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Georgetown College in 2012, a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2017, and a PhD in Health Professions Education in 2022, both from Bellarmine University. She is a Board-Certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialist. Dr. Levay is a full-time faculty member at Bellarmine University, where she teaches a variety of courses related to musculoskeletal, research, and pelvic health content. Her research interests include pelvic health simulation, understanding barriers to addressing sexual health, and holistic care for individuals with connective tissue disorders. She currently works in a private practice outpatient clinic as well as a Senior Care Center, treating adult patients with pelvic floor diagnoses.
Elaine Lonnemann, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT
Dr. Elaine Lonnemann is Director of Curriculum and Clinical Associate Professor in the DPT Program at Hanover College. A physical therapist, educator, and leader with 35+ years of experience, she is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and Fellow of AAOMPT, where she also served as President. She represents Kentucky as Chief Delegate to the APTA House of Delegates and has held faculty and leadership roles nationally, including Associate Dean and Program Director. Her career spans private practice ownership and leadership in hospital-based rehabilitation, as well as 20+ years of teaching at the University of St. Augustine. At Hanover, she oversees curricular design, implementation, and evaluation. She has published and presented nationally and internationally on OMPT, pain science, clinical reasoning, and education. She is completing an EdD at Walden University with a dissertation on professional competencies of fellowship-trained orthopaedic manual physical therapists.
Ky is a student physical therapist in the University of Findlay's PTA to DPT Bridge Program, bringing 7 years of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant in outpatient orthopedics. Ky is also a former graduate of the Somerset Community College's PTA program in 2018. His practice has emphasized manual therapy techniques for a wide range of MSK conditions, and he is a strong advocate for their continued integration across the scope of physical therapy practice. With a unique perspective shaped by his work as both a PTA and DPT student, Ky is committed to promoting evidence-based care, interprofessional collaboration, and advancing clinical education within the profession.
Dr. Pariser obtained a PhD in Exercise Science in 1989 and her entry-level PT degree in 1997. She has 25 years of experience as a faculty member in physical therapy. Her teaching responsibilities in DPT education have been in the areas of exercise physiology, health and wellness promotion, evidence-based practice/research, service learning, and wound care. She has taught in other areas aligned with her educational and clinical background, supporting the delivery of content in anatomy, kinesiology and biomechanics, and geriatrics. Her clinical practice experience, focused on prevention and management of diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and diabetic and vascular wounds includes hospital-based outpatient settings and pro bono service in a federally qualified health center.
Erica Shelley, PT, DPT, Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy
Dr. Shelley earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance from the University of Louisville in 2014 and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Bellarmine University in 2018. She is a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist. Dr. Shelley practices full time at NeuroRestorative Louisville, specializing in treatment of adults with diagnoses of stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Graham is a student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the University of the Cumberlands. He earned a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Kentucky in 2022.
Katherine Smith, PT, DPT, PhD, PCS
Dr. Smith is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy in Hanover’s DPT Program. She earned an MPT (American International College), a DPT (University of St. Augustine), and a PhD in Leadership (Anderson University), where her dissertation examined health promotion and wellness in pediatric physical therapy. A board-certified pediatric specialist (ABPTS), she is a member of APTA’s Pediatric, Neurology, Education, Leadership & Innovation, Home Health, Orthopedic, and Private Practice Sections. She is trained in online curriculum development through Quality Matters. With 20+ years of practice across the lifespan and care continuum, she now focuses on pediatric and neurologically involved patients. Passionate about health promotion, wellness, and preventive care, she has presented at state and national levels on the Annual Pediatric Physical Therapy Visit. Since 2011, she has taught in higher education, utilizing traditional, hybrid, and fully online formats
Tyler is a graduate of the University of the Cumberlands Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. He is a physical therapist at Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy in Lexington KY.
Kelly Prater Whitmore, PT, DPT, CLT
Dr. Kelly Prater Whitmore, PT, DPT, CLT, is a Visiting Clinical Instructor with the Hanover College Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, serving as Secondary Professor, Adjunct Professor, and Program Tutor for DPT students and alumni. She teaches Primary Care, Capstone, Movement Science, Clinical Neuroscience, Neuromuscular Practice, Complex Patient Management to name a few, while also tutoring in Neurology, Capstone, and the remediation program. Dr. Prater Whitmore earned her BSPT from the University of Pittsburgh, her DPT from Arcadia University, and is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist. With 35 years of experience across telemedicine, primary care, acute care, outpatient, pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, home health, and industrial medicine, she also founded Precious Treasures Physical Therapy. She is a member of the APTA and APTA GA. Dr. Prater Whitmore is passionate about advancing physical rehabilitation knowledge while also mentoring the next generation of physical therapists.
