Annual Conference NOW VIRTUAL - General Information

Due to rising COVID transmissions in our state we will be holding the 2021 APTA-KY Annual Conference virtually on October 1 & 2. This year we will offer our Friday evening research forum live on a virtual platform with Q & A. Saturday sessions will include 4 concurrent virtual sessions focused on specialty specific clinical practice guidelines with topics including orthopedic conditions such as neck pain, geriatric hip replacement, and knee replacements; lymphedema assessment and management; and vestibular rehabilitation. Late afternoon sessions will be used to create an infographic on the topics above. An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. Eight CEU’s are available. You will be able to access the sessions and receive CEU’s for 30 days after the conference.

Cervical and Back Pain Clinical Practice Guidelines

Jessica Hetzer, PT, DPT, OCS,
Candace Morton, PT, DPT

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are recommendations on how to diagnose and treat various medical conditions using published evidence based research. In the orthopedic physical therapy setting, neck and low back pain (LBP) are common conditions treated successfully utilizing these CPGs. Back and neck pain account for more than $180 billion in healthcare costs annually, due to inefficient management of these conditions within our healthcare system. In this session, we will review CPGs for cervical and low back pain, which cover the competencies required to properly classify and diagnose these conditions and therapeutic interventions for successful management of these patients, all supported with varying levels of evidence based literature. Our goal is to further educate physical therapists on how we can decrease the expense of treating these conditions with efficient management and proper education to both patients and physicians, with the use of current evidence based literature provided by these CPGs.
